Arkadi Kuhlmann on the Importance and Secrets of Corporate Culture
Despite what many might think, organizations are driven not by profits but by culture. Profits, of course, is management’s way of keeping score and focus. But organizations are the net effect of all of its employees showing up for work each day and collectively moving the business forward. “Culture” is the unifying central purpose – the glue – that keeps all of the parts of the organization moving in harmony to produce the net results.
Many might think that “corporate culture” is one of those airy-fairy “feel-good” issues unimportant for hard-driven top executives. My experience in interviewing over 200 top CEOs is the most successful ones know that culture is critical to success, which is why they spend so much time on the subject. The larger the organization, the more culture is even more important.
In this second episode of my conversation with Arkadi Kuhlmann, CEO of ING Direct , he explains precisely why culture matters and how he manages it in his own company. This is a “must-see” interview.
