Small Business Week Spotlight: Maggie Harlow
In honor of National Small Business Week, we are celebrating Vistage members who started small, dreamed big, and got results. Throughout the week, they will be sharing their stories on how they drive growth for their business, how they take risks, and what their visions are for the future.
After working for her father’s car dealership, in 2003 Maggie decided to go start her own business with Signarama, the largest sign franchise in the world (with 1,000 locations in 50 countries). Maggie, along with her business partner and husband, Brian Harlow, also launched Transworld Business Advisors, in 2009.
My 3 to drive my business forward
- Creating a powerful marketing image in our community through both personal action and visibility and a consistent image through traditional marketing.
- Building sales and production processes so projects move quickly and smoothly through the business and to the client.
- Cultivate a culture of excellence and care. We take great care of our staff so they can take great care of the client.
My leap of faith
During the economic downturn and into the slow recovery, we went into debt to reduce our space footprint and reorganize our space to be more beautiful and cohesive. The business growth spiked in response to a more beautiful and well planned space. The expense was scary to take on, but has more than paid for itself.
My vision for the future
We are actively cultivating a leadership team and culture of learning so that we can continue to acquire new businesses and step further out of our existing businesses. I foresee owning 10 businesses and working with a management team to keep the businesses humming and growing. We enjoy developing staff and thinking BIG with our endeavors.
