Lunch Breakout | Recent tax cuts providing jolt to individuals, corporations and US economy

Location/Time: | 12:30 - 1:45 PM

Presenter: Rebecca Rawlinson, CFP®, Director of Financial Planning, Legacy Wealth Management and Charles Jalenak, CFP®, Director and Chairman of the Investment Committee, Legacy Wealth Management

The presentation will provide you with an update on how the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 will impact your 2018 individual federal tax return by highlighting the changes from the new tax legislation.
  • Key Takeaway # 1:  For individuals, the tax cuts will likely lower rates for 65% of filers, raise them for 6% and remain unchanged for 29%.
  • Key Takeaway # 2:  The 20% write-off for sole proprietors and pass through entities (199A deduction) could be limited for individuals in the service business whose taxable income is over $157,500 ($315,000 for joint returns) and eliminated for all whose income is over $207,500 ($415,000 for joint returns).
The US economy continues to grow steadily with low unemployment, solid consumer spending, and the outlook for corporate earnings growth intact.  Presenter will explore stock market valuations and potential for higher stock prices, along with risks to the economy and the markets.  The Federal Reserve has been more transparent in its actions on raising short-term interest rates.  Yet, rising short-term interest rates has caused a current flattening of the bond yield curve creating nervousness in the markets.
  • Key Takeaway # 3:  Corporate tax cuts are providing additional stimulus on an already healthy economy
  • Key Takeaway # 4:  How the US Treasury bond yield curve might provide a signal for the next recession
