David Novak, CEO of Yum! Brands On Leadership And How To Grow A Strong Organization

This week on The CEO TV Show with Robert Reiss David Novak, CEO of Yum! Brands – The company behind KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut – shared with me his unique insight on leadership and the responsibility of being a CEO.

I asked David Novak what he thought the most important responsibility of a CEO is.

“A lot of CEOs forget that how you get results is through the people that you have the privileged to lead” David replied.

David also discussed with me some of the challenges he faced in leading a large organization like KFC.

“When I was president of KFC in 1994 I came into a really tough situation where there was a lot of animosity, but together we figured out how to grow the business. I went to every regional association and asked them what they would do if they were me. From that I developed a plan that we agreed to, and we marched forward and really turned the business around.”

“ We have a new president of KFC now and one of the things he asked me was to teach him my leadership program ‘taking people with you’ to the franchisees.” David added.
