An opportunity to be grateful

When it comes to keeping your employees engaged and happy, how do you really move the needle?

Some may say an increase in pay, a cash bonus, and opportunities for advancement. But according to a Globoforce infographic, the real answer is much simpler—our employees seek appreciation and recognition.

In fact, 67% of employees said “praise from manager” was a top driver of job satisfaction and happiness. Even more impressive is the connection Globoforce makes between engaged employees and operating income—companies with high engagement saw a nearly 20% change in operating income over a year period (versus a 36.50% DROP for companies with low engagement).

So how do you boost satisfaction levels AND help your company’s growth?

According to Vistage speaker and innovator Cameron Herold, how you communicate as a CEO and as a business also says a lot about your culture.

The best way to keep your best staff members happy is by showing that you really care about your employees as people, far beyond knowing birthdates and names of family members. Cameron says we should be the “Chief Energizing Officer” within our companies. And I would bet a lot of this is also remembering to say: thank you.
