Leaders on Leadership

On Monday evening, Michael Milken led a panel discussion called Conversations on Leadership at The 2011 Milken Institute Global Conference.  It was an extraordinary exchange; not because of fiery disagreements over style, but because of where they agreed on substance – reminding us all about what really matters in life.  The panelists included: baseball’s Joe Torre; Safeway President and CEO, Steven Burd; UCSF Chancellor, Susan Desmond-Hellmann; and Wynn Resorts Chairman and CEO, Steve Wynn.   It’s one thing to read about the practices and principles of leadership in a book and quite another to listen to leaders, who are among the best in their respective fields,  share their experiences and insights in such candid conversation.  While their career paths could not have been more different,  the common themes about people, authenticity, matching actions with words,  leveraging both the positives and negatives of our past, and the need for more mutual respect in our society could not have been more poignant.  I invite you to watch the video of the conversation in its entirety.  Enjoy!
