Discover your leadership style [video]

“Everything we do is a function of our personallities.” — Linda Schwefel

Identify your leadership style to better connect with your team

Have you ever heard the adage, “It’s not what you say, it’s what you do”? For Vistage Chair and speaker Linda Schwefel it isn’t about what you say, it’s how others perceive you. Couching her insights within the work of Albert Mehrabian, Professor Emeritus of Psychology at UCLA, Schwefel says that verbal communication makes up only 7 percent of what we mean. The rest? Tone of voice, context, and body language. In other words, what you say to employees matters, but how you convey it and how they perceive it matters more.

With that in mind, Schwefel outlines a process that teaches CEOs how to 1) understand what kind of leader they are and 2) how that translates into what they convey to employees. By understanding the traits and tone of your leadership, you’ll learn how to better communicate with your workforce, understand how your leadership style changes in times of stress, and strengthen bonds with your employees one conversation at a time.
