Rick Martin
Aptos, CA
My business experience
I was the founder/CEO of the first executive outplacement firm in Silicon Valley. I have also been the founder/CEO of a specialty graphics company; principal of several mid-sized consulting practices; and senior executive with numerous semiconductor, computer and electronics manufacturers. My consulting practice focuses on executive teambuilding, strategic planning, conflict resolution, major marketing initiatives, organizational change, and executive coaching.
My Vistage experience
I have been a Vistage Chair for 16 years. In 1998, I received the Don Cope Memorial Award, the most prestigious honor in the Vistage Chair community. In 2007, I was designated a Master Chair, based on my experience and achievements as a Vistage Chair. Previously I served as Vistage Vice President, Field Operations and Chair Performance (1998-2000); senior trainer and course designer, Vistage Chair Development Programs; a marketing presenter, Chair Candidate Interviewer and Market Development Chair. I began my Vistage experience in 1983 as a Speaker.
Vistage exists for our members—individually and as a group—and it is my responsibility and privilege to provide a unique blend of services, skills, knowledge and innovation to facilitate the Vistage mission. I learn and grow with my members. We challenge each other, we hold each other accountable, we care for and about each other, and we touch each other’s lives.
My Vistage groups
In my Chief Executive group, there are 18 members ranging in age from 39-65. Industries represented: structural engineering, construction, architecture and interior design, candy manufacturing, commercial furniture, funeral and cemetery services, farming and fresh produce, natural foods manufacturing/distribution, software, financial services, legal services, consulting engineering, factory automation, aircraft services, IT products, health and human services, and omega oils manufacturing.
There are 18 members of my Key Executive group, ranging in age from 31-66. These members represent many of the same industries as in the Chief Executive group, as well as collection services, bicycle manufacturing, digital photography, action sports equipment manufacturing and marketing consulting.
Both groups are curious, high-energy, generous, growth-oriented, highly interactive, challenging, and committed to each other’s growth as professionals and as balanced, contributing members of the community.
Who is the “ideal” Vistage member?
We look for individuals who are vitally engaged in life and business, open in mind and communication, willing to be vulnerable and to find themselves occasionally without answers. As well, we seek men and women who are intellectually curious, stimulating and tough, willing to help others, and committed to integrity and a sense of purpose.
