White House Highlights Vistage Member Ed O’Rourke as a Champion of Change for His Efforts to Advance Innovations in Renewable Energy

WASHINGTON, DC, April 18, 2012  On April 19th, Vistage member Ed O’Rourke was one of nine individuals honored at the White House as Champions of Change for advancing new ideas that are leading the way to a clean energy future and an economy that’s built to last.

Supporting homegrown sources of renewable energy is a key part of the President’s all-of-the-above energy strategy to create jobs, reduce our dependence on foreign oil, and strengthen national security, said Nancy Sutley, Chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality.  The leaders we’ve selected as Champions of Change are helping to grow our economy, reduce pollution in our communities, and position America as a world leader in clean energy.

The Champions of Change program was created as a part of President Obama’s Winning the Future initiative. Each week, a different sector is highlighted and groups of Champions, ranging from educators to entrepreneurs to community leaders, are recognized for the work they are doing to serve and strengthen their communities.

Vistage member Ed O’Rourke is the CEO of Iris Technology Corporation, an Irvine, California -based company dedicated to delivering the best power and energy solutions for American troops. Iris Technology supplies the military with products that promote energy independence and enhance national security. PV powered battery recharging technology, including from Iris Technology Corporation, has allowed Marine Patrols to go three weeks without a battery re-supply instead of the standard 2-3 days, enhancing the expeditionary nature of their missions and reducing the number of dangerous re-supply missions needed.
