A Gift to Yourself: Find What Matters Most to You

How to build a sales culture in your business

Things get busier as the year grows shorter.

But is busier really better?

This holiday season, slow down and take time to reflect on what really matters to you.

Bring your thoughts, feelings and beliefs into focus to fulfill your purpose, improve your performance and bring joy into your life and the lives of others.

Every December, I distribute to the leaders I work with a version of a document first developed by fellow Vistage International Chair John Younker nearly 20 years ago.  I’ve added my own perspective to this document and each year I tweak it just a bit to help leaders reflect on the past year and get crystal clear about what they want to accomplish in the year ahead.

You can download for free until December 31, 2013, the entire 4-page Reflections & Outlook document.

A Gift to Yourself: Find What Matters Most to YouThese 3 questions are the heart of this document, and answering them will help you achieve more of what you say you want.

  1. What business objective(s) do I want to achieve in the next 12 months?
  1. What personal goal(s) do I want to accomplish in the next 12 months?
  1. What leadership habit(s) do I want to add, remove or improve in the next 12 months?

Consider these 3 questions your Christmas gift to yourself.

If you’re not in a Vistage peer advisory group – where one of the cornerstones of the experience is accountability – share these questions with another person you trust. Ask them to answer the questions.  Once you’ve both answered the questions, share your answers with each other.  And then hold each other accountable to take action on the things you’ve said are important.

When you do, you can celebrate these Christmas wishes one year from now as having been accomplished.

What will be the impact of accomplishing these goals that you say are important?

What will be the impact of not doing so?

In the holiday spirit of giving, you may wish to share with your colleagues, friends and loved ones this shorter personal planning template I call the 7 Fs that you can download for free

Answer the questions you find in both documents honestly.  Then live them out enthusiastically and execute against them diligently.

This Christmas, take the time to get real about what matters most to you.

Doing so could change your life.
