Holly Green Named 2007 Rookie Speaker of the Year
(June 4) – Holly Green, a former Fortune 100 executive who joined Vistage as a speaker last March, has been named Rookie of the Year among 2007 speakers.
To be eligible for this award, a new speaker must average 4.5 and above in both content and delivery while delivering the most presentations in the past 12 months, ending in the calendar year.
“It is a great honor, as I have come across many excellent speakers and individuals involved with Vistage so I know what good company I am in,” she said. “It has been a hectic year doing as many presentations as I have along with the rest of my business, but I have learned from the members as well so it is keeping me on my toes!”
Holly began speaking in March 2007 and completed 19 presentations with an overall average of 4.5 on content and 4.6 in delivery. She is booked for 48 presentations in 2008. She offers five different programs providing her expertise on topics such as innovation and strategic planning. Among the presentations are “Enhancing Your Own Effectiveness,” “Innovating Every Day,” “Just Getting It Done – Driving Execution,” “Performance Excellence” and “Who Am I & Who the Heck are You?”
“Holly has been a pleasure to work with over the past year, she is so easy to work with and always willing to help us out,” remarked Heather Cohan, Chair Operations Manager, on behalf of all of the Chair Operations Advisors. The COAs helped determine this year’s roster of recipients.
According to her speaker biography, Holly is CEO and managing director of The Human Factor, Inc. in San Diego. She has more than 20 years of executive level and operations experience in Fortune 100, entrepreneurial, and management consulting organizations and previously served as president of The Ken Blanchard Companies, a global consulting and training company, as well as LumMed, a biotech startup.
She has a broad background in strategic planning, organization design and development, process improvement, leadership assessment and development, and the integration and alignment of business strategies. She has successfully designed and built the necessary infrastructure in several organizations, working with The Coca-Cola Company, AT&T, Dell Computer, Bass Hotels & Resorts, Qualcomm, Expedia, Inc., RealNetworks, Inc., Microsoft and Google.
When asked why she thought her program was popular, she responded: “I involve the members and try not to do too much of the ‘stand and spew’ that sometimes happens with speakers. I also work to make it fun and upbeat. The members all have important roles in their organizations and need a little break to relax their mind while learning some new techniques and tips to be even better leaders. I also work hard to stay up to the minute with the topics I talk about and that helps keep people engaged as well. I have been told I am very high-energy but I think it is just all the Diet Coke I drink for breakfast!”
In addition to her corporate experience, Holly also has extensive experience in political strategy at the local, state, and presidential levels. She earned a bachelor’s degree in behavioral sciences and a M.S. degree in organization development. She is currently on the staff at Webster University and teaches courses in the graduate program. She is also a board member of the San Diego Performing Arts League as well as Total Training, Inc. and a member of the Chairmen’s Roundtable, a non-profit organization of senior executives providing pro-bono consulting to mid-sized businesses.
She provided some advice for other new speakers trying to have an immediate impact.
“Be flexible and always prepared,” she said. “You will show up and your materials won’t. You will have a projector bulb blow with no back up lamp! You will trip on the computer wires at least once! You may even lose electricity in the room, have the fire alarm go off and be forced to evacuate. You might even show up at the airport to head to a presentation on the wrong day. I think all these things happened to me in my first few months. You have to take a deep breath, relax and know it will all work out because you are working with great people.”
